When I moved to Bahrain, I didn’t expect to fall so hard for the food scene—but here we are. From hole-in-the-wall spots to chic date-night restaurants, there’s no shortage of flavour-packed meals on this island. These are my personal go-to spots, and honestly, I think they rank among the best restaurants in Bahrain—places where I’ve spent way too much time debating menus, trying just one more thing, and bringing visiting friends. Here’s where to eat—and what to order—if you’re hungry in Bahrain.

1. Calexico – For California-style Mexican
📍 Adliya Block 338
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Calexico. If you’re craving bold, punchy Mexican food, Calexico is your place. The vibe is laid-back, the margaritas are strong, and the food hits all the right notes. It’s casual but cool, with an open-air courtyard that’s perfect for Bahrain’s breezier nights.
What to try:
- Queso dip and chips (because, obviously)
- Crispy chicken burrito – perfectly spiced and super filling
2. Bird Restaurant – For casual American comfort food
📍 Zinj
Bird is all about bold flavours and juicy fried chicken. It’s ideal for when you’re craving a satisfying bite without the fuss.
What to try:
- So Sriracha chicken sandwich – crispy, tangy, just spicy enough
- Mild buffalo wings – delicious flavour, messy, and worth it
3. Oishi – For sushi and Japanese fusion
📍 The Avenues Mall, Manama
There are lots of sushi spots in Bahrain, but Oishi is the one I keep going back to. The rolls are creative and packed with flavour, and the service is consistently great.
What to try:
- Volcano maki – spicy, crunchy, and satisfying
- Flowing lava roll – creamy, rich and slightly sweet
4. Monsoon – For Thai food with an upscale vibe
📍 Adliya Block 338
Monsoon is the kind of place that makes you feel instantly chill. This place is a whole experience. The interiors feel like you’ve been transported to a high-end Southeast Asian villa; think koi ponds, wood carvings, and delicious Thai and Japanese dishes.
What to try:
- Pad Thai – reliably good and not too sweet
- Khao niew mamoung (mango sticky rice) – the perfect dessert to share (or not)
5. Oak – For creative brunch and café vibes
📍 Riffa
If you like breakfast food with a twist, Oak’s for you. Oak is small, charming, and perfect for a slow weekend morning. Everything feels homemade and hearty—and it’s one of those rare places that nails both sweet and savory.
What to try:
- Baked beans and halloumi skillet – warm and comforting with the perfect salty-cheesy balance
- Chicken salad sandwich – light, fresh, and full of flavour

6. Katana Torii – For cozy Japanese eats
📍 Juffair 📍 Amwaj
Katana Torii feels like a neighbourhood secret. It’s low-key, quiet, and delivers on taste every time. The food is always fresh, and the menu has just enough variety without being overwhelming.
What to try:
- Shrimp tempura avocado maki – crunchy, creamy, and surprisingly light
- Spicy chicken gyoza – pan-fried to perfection with a nice kick
7. The Block – Comfort Food With a Twist
📍 Block 346, Seef
The Block is for days when you just want something indulgent. The kind of place you go when you’re not counting calories—you’re counting how many bites you can steal from your friend’s plate.
What to try:
- Chicken volcano fries – spicy, saucy, cheesy chaos in a bowl. You’ll love it.
- Risotto con pollo – creamy, rich, and comforting with just the right bite.
8. Coco’s – A Local Favourite That Feels Like Home
📍 Adliya Block 338
Coco’s is always busy—and for good reason. It’s one of those places you can always count on. The menu is huge, and the garden seating is peaceful.
What to try:
- Lentil and tomato soup – hearty and flavourful without being heavy
- Cha Cha tacos – a fun, fresh option if you’re in a taco mood

9. Otto – For hearty Italian favourites
📍 Seef
Otto is cozy and a little rustic, with hearty portions that make it worth the visit. It’s ideal for when you’re in the mood for pasta or a proper Sunday-style meal.
What to try:
- Tagliatelle bolognese – a classic done right. Rich, meaty, and soul-warming
- Lamb shank – fall-off-the-bone tender with the kind of sauce you’ll want to spoon onto everything
10. Jasmi’s – For Bahraini fast food
📍 All over Bahrain
I know, I know—fast food? But trust me, Jasmi’s is a whole thing here. It’s comfort food on a budget, with a uniquely Bahraini twist. It’s Bahrain’s answer to McDonald’s, but better (yes, I said it). Late-night craving? Road trip snack? Jasmi’s is there for you.
What to try:
- Original chicken nuggets – and here’s a tip: make your own sandwich by putting the nuggets on the fresh buns with their BBQ sauce. Trust me.
- Veggie burger – surprisingly delicious.
Final Thoughts
Bahrain might be small, but its food scene is mighty. Whether you’re craving fancy sushi or fast food fusion, there’s a spot here with your name on it (or at least your future lunch order). This list highlights some of the best restaurants in Bahrain—places I’ve eaten at more times than I can count. Some became my comfort food, while others turned into my go-to’s for birthdays, goodbyes, and everything in between. If you try any of them, let me know what you think—or if you stumble upon a hidden gem I missed!
